Entrepreneurship / Lesson 04

Lesson 04 · School of Entrepreneurship

Sell the offer before building the machine

An offer is a testable promise

Offer components

Audience, painful situation, promised change, scope, time boundary, price or commitment, proof available now, and next action.

Price as a signal

Price is not proof of value. It tests whether the problem is important enough for a buyer to allocate resources. Free enthusiasm and paid commitment are different evidence.

Paid pilots

A useful pilot has a named outcome, bounded duration, owner on both sides, and an explicit decision at the end. A vague partnership is not a pilot.

Do not pre-sell fiction

Sell work you can deliver and state what the buyer must contribute. Do not promise an outcome the system cannot produce.

Do the work

Create a conversation-sized ask, a one-week committed pilot, and a longer engagement. Ask three qualified people which one they would accept and why.

Falsifier: If this lesson makes you feel more certain but does not change the next observable action, it has probably become motivation content instead of an operating tool.

This is a working course document combining first-principles reasoning with observations from BIPU work. It is not a guarantee of business success. Ask what would falsify it.
